In the expression of her artistic vision, Tania Rivilis explores the limits of the portrait genre. She actualizes the old pictorial tradition in new systems of knowledge, in fundamentally different worldviews. The subject of her research is relationships. Rivilis often refers to a paired or group portrait, where even in a solitary image she accentuates the presence of the silent interlocutor outside the borders of the canvas. She creates portraits in which there is always a reference to another. Because only in another’s gaze, through that prism, can the subject be assembled into a coherent image. Otherwise, a portrait would be an empty shell, merely a set of individual external features. The central image is imbued with life by this reciprocity from outside, as if outside the gaze, outside the touch or coexistence. Without this, the subject would disintegrate, and with it, the entire work would lose its raison d'être. In this way, she makes sense of one of the most traumatic discoveries with which the history of the twentieth century is stitched, a discovery at the intersection of psychoanalysis and semiotics: the lack of a definitively fixed integrity of the human self. In the interconnectedness, she explores the age-old quest for an answer to the question 'Who am I?'
Tania Rivilis (b. 1986, Ukraine) began painting at the age of 27, after moving to Germany in 2012. Since 2015, she has taken part in art shows and exhibitions around the world.
Tania’s paintings are now displayed in museums, galleries, and private collections around the world. Since 2019, Tania has been a permanent artist at Arcadia Contemporary, New York, and Bonnard Galerie, Netherlands, as well as displaying work at the LA Art Fair (presented by Arcadia Gallery), Amsterdam First Art Fair (Bonnard Gallery), and Art Basel (curated by Mashonda Tifrere „ArtLeadsHer“ and the Royal House of Medici).
In 2022, Tania received the prestigious William Lock Prize at the Royal Portrait Society for the Most Timeless Portrait, with a real feeling for paint and aesthetic potential. In 2023, Tania had her first show at Christie´s London.
Her works were displayed on billboards in New York's Times Square during NFT NYC ´23, as well as in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, Ghent, San Franciso, Tokyo, Melbourne, and Lagos as part of the Artcrush World Tour.
In July 2023 Tania was featured on BBC World in 'Women Painting Portraits'.Since 2021, she has taken an active role in the NFT community (SuperRare, Foundation, Nifty Gateway, objkt, etc) and has collaborated with Hollywood luminaries like Val Kilmer, Laurence Fuller, and with The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson.
Tania currently maintains studios in Germany and Portugal.

A few years later she won one of the biggest awards in the UK - the William Lock Prize for the most timeless portrait with a real feeling for paint and its aesthetically potential at the Royal Portrait Society, London.
